Westfield Elementary School

(near Robins, Linn County)

Three dedicated groundwater monitoring wells were drilled at the Westfield Elementary School near Robins in Linn County. The shallow well (Westfield 3), 40 feet deep, is monitoring the contact between the overlying materials and the bedrock aquifer. The next deepest well (Westfield 2), 200 feet deep, allows us to monitor an upper aquifer zone in the Silurian aquifer. The deepest well (Westfield 1), 440 feet deep, taps water in the lower part of the Silurian aquifer.

Core descriptions  (quaternary and bedrock) have been prepared for the well nest. Pump tests were performed on all three wells to determine the water level response when the wells were pumped.

Water quality analyses were performed on water from all of these wells in January and February 2003 (click here for analysis results). These wells will continue to be sampled to monitor the water quality in these aquifers.

Water level data   (feet below ground surface)

Well # 2/4/2003
1 84.28 ft.
2 34.84 ft.
3   85.73 ft.
