Groundwater Level Network
The Water Monitoring Section of the Iowa
Department of Natural Resources and the United States Geological Survey
cooperate on the Water Level Well Network. This network consists of 159 wells in
different aquifers (see map) whose water levels are measured at least quarterly.
The aquifers monitored are Alluvium, Pleistocene, Cretaceous, Mississippian/Pennsylvanian, Silurian/Devonian, and Cambrian/Ordovician. The
formal water level network was started in 1982, however some water level data
exists prior to this time period for certain wells. Monitoring was suspended in 2004 due to budget cuts
and will resume in 2005 for the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer. To obtain water level data for
wells in the network contact the Water Monitoring Section Groundwater Quality Network
