Listing of Mineral Producers and Mineral Production Sites in Iowa

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Geological Survey does not collect or publish a listing of mineral producers or mineral production sites within the State of Iowa.   Listings of mineral producers and production sites may be available from two other State of Iowa departments.  An out-of-date geographic information system (GIS) coverage from the year 2000 of similar information is available via the Geological Survey Bureau’s World Wide Web server.

This publication is an annual listing, arranged by county, of many, but not all, crushed stone quarries and sand & gravel pits active within the last ten years.  Listed are the producer, pit or quarry name, and location, plus durability classes for Portland Cement Concrete and frictional classes for Asphaltic Concrete.  Digital copies are available from the IDOT web-site at:  http://www.erl.dot.state.ia.us/Apr_2005/IM/frames.htm (NOTE: Follow the VOLUME IV link on this site and then click on "General Aggregate Source Information").

Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, List of Registered Mineral Production Sites and Licensed Producers

This is a listing of all currently registered mineral production sites and licensed mineral producers within the State of Iowa.  Listed are the site name, location, material produced and the producer's name and address.  This listing is difficult to obtain.

 United States Geological Survey Minerals Yearbook - Mineral Industry of Iowa

This is an annual publication summarizing mineral production areas, statistics and trends.  The summary is based upon an annual or biannual canvassing of principle producers within the state by the USGS.  The report is available via the Web at:  http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/state/ia.html
