The Natural Resources Geographic Information System (NRGIS) is the geographic information system (GIS) developed and maintained by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The purpose of the NRGIS is to improve the availability, integration, and analysis of natural resource information and improve decisions regarding the management, development and protection of Iowa's natural resources. The system is a distributed, heterogeneous system based primarily on personal computers. The Geographic Information Section of the Geological Survey Bureau coordinates and manages the system for DNR. The cornerstone of the system is the NRGIS Library. It is a collection of more than 1000 geographically referenced databases available to DNR staff through local area networks. The NRGIS Library information is public and this World Wide Web site is designed to acquaint you with the available information and assist you in obtaining it. The Web is an exciting new way to deliver GIS information services. We encourage all with GIS databases to share them in a similar manner so that all may benefit from our aggregated investments in this valuable technology. Your comments on our Natural Resources Geographic Information System are always welcome. Please address them to Casey Kohrt (319-335-1353) or email (ckohrt@igsb.uiowa.edu)
