The study of Iowa's groundwater resources is a fundamental part of the Geological Survey Bureau's role to collect, compile, interpret, and report on water resources information; and to serve as the principal repository of all hydrogeologic data and make that data available to the public. Information sources utilized in these studies include: geologic "strip logs" prepared by Survey geologists from well cuttings donated by Iowa's well drilling community; research drilling cores; outcrop and quarry descriptions; driller's logs; well construction records; pump tests; and water-quality analyses from public, private, and research wells. Results from multiple studies may be found in various publications on alluvial aquifers, bedrock aquifers, and regional and county reports.
