PRIVATE WELL CONSTRUCTION
Uniform minimum standards and methods for well construction and
reconstruction for nonpublic water supply wells have been established to protect
the public health by protecting groundwater supplies from contamination.
Wells need to be planned and constructed to adapt to the geological and
groundwater conditions of the proposed well site to ensure reasonable
utilization of every natural protection against contamination of the
water-bearing formation(s) and the exclusion of possible sources of
contamination, to attempt to produce bacterially safe water which is free of
health-related problems. The three diagrams below illustrate the state of
Iowa administrative rules, Chapter 567-49, for Nonpublic Water Supply Wells.
